WW - Elgin Marble
This week's entry for the Tuesday and Wednesday edition of Wordless Wednesday.
Hi Jams, I am wondering what color this piece is or was? I did look up the Elgin Marble Company in Scotland, BUT, is this one of those that will be put back in the Parthenon? Happy WW! ..
Hi Jams - When I saw the photo I was going to ask you if you thought they would ever be returned to Greece, but I see you have answered the question in your comment above. I am among those who would like to see the Elgin marbles returned to their country of origin.
Too bad they didn't have rebar back in the day. This poor soul along with Venus de Milo, could've used some support with the extremities! You'll have to excuse me - I've got election burn out... ~~~Blessings~~~
I love the movement in this piece! Wow.
ReplyDeleteAnd, come on on America, do it right this time... GOBAMA!!!

THanks everyone. THese are at the British Museum and are not likely to go baclk to Greece. Personally I think they would be better there than London

ReplyDeleteThanks everyone!
ReplyDeletePhotos like that always make me sad. Masterworks of antiquity so badly damaged. I can only wish to see them as the artist completed them.
ReplyDeleteI have seen a lot of these in Greece ! They are all damaged. It's a pity !
ReplyDeleteInteresting piece of art, Jams. Past, present location and discussion about the future makes it even more interesting, if at all possible!
ReplyDeleteThat's a beautiful statue. I love that it's in B/W too.
ReplyDeletehey, we DO have a president. Thanks for celebrating with us yanks. Happy WW
