The title of this blog comes from a Gaelic expression -"putting on the poor mouth"-which means to exaggerate the direness of one's situation in order to gain time or favour from creditors.

Photo Hunt - Stripes
The theme for this week's Photo Hunt is stripes. Again I don;t have a lot that fits in wth the theme so shere's a repeat of hover fly photo posted originally in 2007. Also a bumble bee that chooses not to flaunt its delicious stripines... or should that be hoops? Ah well another stretched theme!
My cast means that I still can't spend too much time at the pc so please bear with me

Love both these photos and the bees in their stripey glory! Hope your leg is feeling better. Happy weekend.
Great shots, Jams, although I tend to look away from insects...
Take good care of yourself.
Mine is up, happy hunting and happy weekend!
How did you manage to come up so close without scaring the bee and the fly?
Ah Nevin I use a macro lens. It alows me to get in close while the insects are preoccupied with getting food!
Great shots for stripes Jams!
I'm really glad you skiped the socks too ;)
I hope your leg is getting better!
Have a great weekend!
Anna
Oh but you can take such sharp photos of little things... Loved your stripes!
Not at all stretched. Wonderful photos as always.
And the cats in the earlier photo look so relaxed!
Great photos Jams, the hover fly is a wonderful one indeed.
Ugh, you are having a time with that leg.
Beautiful shots, Jams. I love your photos although I´m highly allergical to these.
Take good care of yourself.
Same thing with me. But this one fits the bill. I didn't really cross my mind that animals could fit the theme too.
I never thought of these fellas - just as well, no pictures.
I love the shots of the striped bees. I think that was a great choice. Happy weekend.
Wonderful! I never even thought of my bee photos! Perfect. ;-)
Lovely photos and a great idea for the theme :-) I haven't posted mine yet, but they were taken last weekend ;-)
Wonderful photos :)
I wish you well :) Have a great weekend!
Great photos but I wouldn't get that close!
Those are great photos, but I may have fainted if I got that close. I'm afraid of anything that flys and buzzes. And stings. ((shudder))
I enjoyed your UBoat post below also. Interesting stuff.
excellent choice Jams, excellent photos also.
Get well soon. Have enough rest please
Looks stripey enough for me! :)
And get well soon but, hey, at least, through the power of the internet, you still can cover a lot of ground virtually!
I love bees... and your photos are terrific.
Oooo... like this close-up of a bee. It isn't possible for me to catch one and do that. haha....
Hey, how's the leg coming? Take care.
*signs on cast*

My stripes are posted. Found all over Texas! Come see for yourself. Happy weekend wishes sent your way.
Such wonderful shots. I had not thought of the bumblebee's stripes.
Take care.
You got a bee. I got me a zebra
amazing photo.. the wonders of nature!
Oh, now this is just too cool! Very good shots. I am always amazed by the close up shots of such fast moving creatures. :) Great job, jams! Thanks for sharing. My Stripes.
that is just perfect for this theme. beautiful shots too! mine is very common. =)
Insects won't just sit and pose for you. You need to shoot at the decisive moment.
THanks everyone.. sadly they don't care to pose for teh camera Ren!
That's a very nice picture ! I would have never thought of a bee !
Excellent entry.
These insects are utterly important for a sustainable world
Pretty shots. Love the stripes in the bee
Fantastic macro work here! Hope you get back on your foot soon!
Great photos for this week Jams, hope you are feeling better. :)
liked your stripe submission...thanks for stopping by mine blog.
These are great pics. I wanted to put my son's pic in his bumble bee outfit too but picked something else ;-) Take a look here http://www.mirasblog.com/2009/04/photo-hunt-12-stripes.html
These ARE great pictures of the bumble bee... the little buggers move so much and are always coming and going so fast, they are hard to capture. What is the plant? Perhaps it is so intoxicating that he decided to stay awhile... great for you...
Thanks for stopping by.
Great photo hunt!
You can blog with one hand tied behind your back!! Take care of you :-)
That hover-fly is well striped, much more showy than the bumble.
Thanks for visiting, Jams.
Thanks Everyone!
Hey, these are great photos and make for a great story - you might like our meme at Tell Me Thursday - you can make your WW really wordless and STILL tell the story! Give it a try!
I wonder why bees have stripes, anyway? They are kind of like the tiger of the insect world.
Beautiful shots! Great choise for stripes.
Hope that you get better soon!
Have a nice weekend!
Fantastic striped shots! I don't think it's streaching the theme at all. But then again I am biased.
Aren't bees among the most fascinating of animals?
Great capture even though they are pesky insects...although bees are kind of cute. I think they reflect the stripe theme very well and the lavender flower is gorgeous. It makes up for the fly. :>)
Thank you for visiting my photo hunt this week.
Great pictures!
Wonderful pictures

I love bumblebees! I followed a great big, fat sassy one all over the garden center the other day, but he kept ducking under flowers so I couldn't get a shot of his beautiful iridescent wings. Stripes, indeed!
~~~Blessings~~~
Great shots!
Great shots of what we will start seeing a lot of. Have a happy weekend.
Interesting take of the stripes on a bee's body. The thought never did cross my mind :P
Happy Sunday Jams!! :)
Aww... I still remembered my Mum's "vampire" sting from one of these bees. Anyway, love the composition of the photos. Great work!
Never mind repeating, these shots are way too cool to gather dust in the archive.
Have a great week, and what is the fore-cast?
