Photo Hunt - Stripes

Hover fly in its stripey glory

A rather coy bumble bee

The theme for this week's Photo Hunt is stripes
. Again I don;t have a lot that fits in wth the theme so shere's a repeat of hover fly photo posted originally in 2007. Also a bumble bee that chooses not to flaunt its delicious stripines... or should that be hoops? Ah well another stretched theme!

My cast means that I still can't spend too much time at the pc so please bear with me

Great shots, Jams, although I tend to look away from insects...
Take good care of yourself.
Mine is up, happy hunting and happy weekend!

Nevin said...

How did you manage to come up so close without scaring the bee and the fly?

jams o donnell said...

Ah Nevin I use a macro lens. It alows me to get in close while the insects are preoccupied with getting food!

Not at all stretched. Wonderful photos as always.

And the cats in the earlier photo look so relaxed!

Great photos Jams, the hover fly is a wonderful one indeed.

Ugh, you are having a time with that leg.

Beautiful shots, Jams. I love your photos although I´m highly allergical to these.
Take good care of yourself.

Same thing with me. But this one fits the bill. I didn't really cross my mind that animals could fit the theme too.

I never thought of these fellas - just as well, no pictures.

Great photos but I wouldn't get that close!

Those are great photos, but I may have fainted if I got that close. I'm afraid of anything that flys and buzzes. And stings. ((shudder))

I enjoyed your UBoat post below also. Interesting stuff.

Get well soon. Have enough rest please

Looks stripey enough for me! :)

And get well soon but, hey, at least, through the power of the internet, you still can cover a lot of ground virtually!

Insects won't just sit and pose for you. You need to shoot at the decisive moment.

These ARE great pictures of the bumble bee... the little buggers move so much and are always coming and going so fast, they are hard to capture. What is the plant? Perhaps it is so intoxicating that he decided to stay awhile... great for you...
Thanks for stopping by.

That hover-fly is well striped, much more showy than the bumble.

Hey, these are great photos and make for a great story - you might like our meme at Tell Me Thursday - you can make your WW really wordless and STILL tell the story! Give it a try!

I wonder why bees have stripes, anyway? They are kind of like the tiger of the insect world.

Brita said...

Beautiful shots! Great choise for stripes.
Hope that you get better soon!
Have a nice weekend!

Brine Queen said...

Fantastic striped shots! I don't think it's streaching the theme at all. But then again I am biased.

feefifoto said...

Aren't bees among the most fascinating of animals?

Anonymous said...

Great capture even though they are pesky insects...although bees are kind of cute. I think they reflect the stripe theme very well and the lavender flower is gorgeous. It makes up for the fly. :>)

Thank you for visiting my photo hunt this week.

I love bumblebees! I followed a great big, fat sassy one all over the garden center the other day, but he kept ducking under flowers so I couldn't get a shot of his beautiful iridescent wings. Stripes, indeed!
