The title of this blog comes from a Gaelic expression -"putting on the poor mouth"-which means to exaggerate the direness of one's situation in order to gain time or favour from creditors.

Another view of a dead echinops
Gone for the year but come August there will once more be dozens of new heads with each bearing hundreds of tiny flowers.
It can never lose its appeal...
