Hover fly and Hebe
This week's Wordless Wednesday entry is a Hoverfly having a meal of Hebe nectar. Taken in my garden at the weekend
Jenn I there is no real secret. I have a macro lens which allows me to get in very close to my subjects. I get the depth of field by stopping down as far as I can without making the image too dark. When I load the image I crop slightly (but only slightly) and adjust teh brightness and contrast a little. I do manipulate my images but only a little.
I'm not sure I've ever seen a hover fly, nor have I seen Hebe! Thanks for sharing that. Your work is always so lovely. From the looks of it, I'd like to take a walk in the garden at your house!
Cool picture! I love pictures of bugs... how do you get close enough to take it?? I saw another one of a butterfly on a flower, that someone took. When I try to take pictures like that, they come out just like specks. (Or it may be because my camera doesn't have ZOOM!)
Beautiful shot!

Sneaky hoverfly, pretending to be a wasp!

Hmmm
ReplyDeleteThe coloquial term for that type of insect in the States is Yellow Jackets.
Thanks Mags. I thought yellow jackets were wasps Beakerkin. The hover fly just uses wasp like camouflage.
ReplyDeletewasp unicoloured? Ah I think we have a case of different use of the word. Here the most common wasps are yellow and black.
