PhotoHunt - Ruin

Kilmeady Castle, Milstreet Ireland

Hadleigh Castle, Essex UK

The theme for this week's Photo Hunt is ruin(ed). There's no stretching the theme this week as I have some ruined castle shots that fit the bill. Actually I'm not sure I will actually sign up at tnchick's this week as I am indisposed until Sunday evening. If I get the chance then I will.

  1. Now that's an early post!

Both good shots. I've no idea yet what I'll be posting.

  6. I think you could have put in the ruined shots as well. Quite atmospheric, these ones, by the way.

I was born and brought up near Hadleigh castle. As a very young boy I was very excited at the thought there was a castle nearby.

My first (and only) visit to the place may be the biggest anticlimax of my life - I had visions of battlements, moats, drawbridges, etc. and found a small pile of rocks.

Your photo actually makes it look more impressive than I remember it!

Love your choices for the theme, the b/w picture is very dramatic, the second one is beautiful!
Have a nice weekend, wherever you are!

  16. Beautiful shots both. Love the sky and surroundings in the Hadleigh Castle picture but the Irish one is the one that has me intrigued -- i.e., is that the home of its caretaker by it or...?

  17. Excellent photos Jams. Lots of ruins in your part of the world. I had to scan some from my pre-digital days.

I haven't signed up at tnchick's for ages as I play Friday and always forget on Saturday when I am so busy.
    Have g good weekend.

  18. Nice ones! My ruined Irish castle shots are from my pre-digital days and stuck in the top of a closet. So I chose something else... Here's mine:

  19. I guess there's no shortage of ruined castles in Ireland and England.... the second one is amazing, it looks like someone sliced the castle open like a piece of cheese!

  20. Fantastic shots. One of the failings of Australia is that there are not too many of these splendid ruins. We do have nice weather and the beer is cold. Can't have everything I suppose.

  22. What perfect photos for this week's theme. I especially like the second photo - the contrast of the ruin against sky and fields - excellent!

I'm glad you didn't "stretch" the theme; those are the kind of ruins I love! :) Hope you have a happy weekend! (I hesitate every single week to sign up on tnchick's blog, I hardly ever manage more than a handful visits. But hey, that is life! So don't worry about it...
