Spudship Enterprise?

Meanwhile the http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-1308820/Monster-veg-grower-shows-world-record-breaking-potato-shaped-like-Starship-Enterprise.html Mail has an item about a humungous potato which weighs in at over 8lb (About 3.3kg).A veritable monster but the headline and the copy gives the impression that this fine tuber somehow looks like the Starship Enterprise

Err I think not even if it had taken a huge kicking off the Klingons (pre-Khitomer), Romulans, Cardassians and the Dominion!

On the other hand perhaps they were referring to the Enterprise D after saucer separation...

God I need to watch less telly...

Well I can see what the Mail is getting at Jams (which is not something I can say very often). It's one lesser known aspect of the defence repertoire you know... if the photon torpedoes haven't done the job, if the shields have failed, if the dilithium crystals are too degraded to power the full invisibility cloaking device... last chance option: "Scotty - pretend we're a spud!" Well, you know, it's worth a try when the chips are down (ho ho).

  2. Ah I never thought of that Andrew. That explains the tuber class of starships including the USS Maris Piper

I've had a look through common potato varieties Jams. USS Rocket and USS Pentland Javelin sound appropriate (sound rather suspicious actually). I think there was that episode where Kirk cried: "Mashed potato Scotty! Mashed potato!" and Scotty cried back: "I'm givin' you all ah can Captain but the masher just cannae take it!" You remember?

  4. I was going to make a comment about the damn thing looking like a staple for a good dinner for a family of 12 but I didn't because Andrew's comment amused me.

  5. Did you have Mr Potato Head in the UK as a kid?

  6. Ah yes Andrew I remember that episode clearly. The Tetraspuddium containment failed when they were trying to escape the Tholian web

Haha he came up with a good one eh Susan?

    Oh yes we did Ren!

  7. As long as I don't have to peel the potato, it could be what it wants to be.

  8. Ah no! The peel cloak is a secret Federation weapon!

  9. I'm no Trek nut, but that's a magnificent spudulacrum. It should be preserved — at least for the next generation.
