The title of this blog comes from a Gaelic expression -"putting on the poor mouth"-which means to exaggerate the direness of one's situation in order to gain time or favour from creditors.

A bit of Boccherini
A piece loved by Jack Aubrey and Stephen Maturin in Patrick O'Brian's books
And an extract that appears at teh end of Master and Commander: The Far Side of the World
Thanks to seeing Master and Commander, myself and a friend discovered Boccherini and so its nice to see another promotion for the work!
Fact My friend was thrilled when she saw M&C because 'the canons moved'! She's thrown things at TV screens in the past for them having canons fired that never budged an inch from their firing position.
It was the books and the film that inspired me to look for Boccherini. I must try find the piece that theynwere listening when they first met and hearly duelled!
They had terrible recoils. But then a lot of film conventions are just lazy and untrue

Boccherini - oh yes, mid week.
Pleasant, eh?
In my long life, I totally missed Boccherini, and that movie. Very entertaining. I'll get a CD and DVD. Thank you, Jams.
Glad to be of service Claudia!
