The title of this blog comes from a Gaelic expression -"putting on the poor mouth"-which means to exaggerate the direness of one's situation in order to gain time or favour from creditors.

Bowie's Back!
I thought that Reality would be Bowie's last hurrah but clearly not. After a silence of nearly 10 yearsBowie has ust released a new single and a new album is being released in March.
On first hearing I'm not that taken by the new single. It may grow on me.I will be interested in hearing what the new album sounds like though

Ziggy Stardust and the spider from Malaysia
The giant yellow spider has been named Heteropoda davidbowie was discovered by biologists Peter Jäger, who has discovered 200 new species in the past 10 years. Most of these arachnids are endangered, and by naming spiders after celebrities Jäger hopes to attract public attention to the dangers facing each species. "It is working against time," he says. "Along with the species, we are also quickly losing genetic resources that have evolved over more than 300 million years."
Bowie shares the honour of having a spider named after him with Nina Hagen, a German punk singer and a definite blast from the past! I hope this ploy does help get attention to the vulnerabity of these species
What with the Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders From Mars I suppose it was inevitable. It was also inevitable I would use this news item as an excuse for a Bowie vid... so here goes

Seven songs for spring
"List seven songs you are into right now. No matter what the genre, whether they have words, or even if they’re not any good, but they must be songs you’re really enjoying now, shaping your spring. Post these instructions in your blog along with your 7 songs. Then tag 7 other people to see what they’re listening to."
A lot of spring so far has involved me sitting or lying around in a big, heavy cast and suffering from a huge dose of cabin fever. The only thing stopping me climbing the walls was the bloody huge cast!
Ennui (or should that be downright boredom?) caused me to return to my first loves of music, the punk, new wave and heavy metal of my teens in the late 70s and early 80s (plus a bit of earlier stuff). I suppose it was a bit like comfort listening. Anyway, here goes:
1 Teenage Lobotomy – The Ramones
2. Motorhead - Bomber
3. Stranglers – Tank (plus Curfew)
From Revolver (remember that show?)
4. Iron Maiden – Sanctuary
Featuring original vocalist Paul Di’Annio
5. The Clash – Straight to Hell
6. David Bowie – Heroes
7. Peter Hammill – Nadir’s Big Chance
So there you have it. Nothing too out of the ordinary but I still love these artists. Rather than nominate seven more people I will leave it open to anyone who wants to give it a go.
