The title of this blog comes from a Gaelic expression -"putting on the poor mouth"-which means to exaggerate the direness of one's situation in order to gain time or favour from creditors.

A couple of Gashlycrumb tinies
Gashlycrumb Tinies is a gloriously macabre book by the appropriately named Edward Gorey featuring 26 gruesome child deaths. It's more entertaining than it sounds!
I love Gorey. Just a year or two ago, I happened to be in San Diego when they had an exhibit of his work at SDSU. Was great to see his original sketches and pieces.
A friend of mine put these up too. I wasn't happy until I had read every child of the alphabet and learned their gruesome fate. It reminds me of the really dark Grimm Fairytales.
I love these! There's somewhere on the web where you can have your own one done too.
ReplyDeleteThat looks like more like my sort of thing!
