The title of this blog comes from a Gaelic expression -"putting on the poor mouth"-which means to exaggerate the direness of one's situation in order to gain time or favour from creditors.

Oh dear....
I won't laugh too much, there are plenty of britons who would put up as dismal a performance!
I couldn't help myself: I immediately thought of that awful extended multiple pun in the PDQ Bach biography. After a painfully long setup, the punch line is "Buda pest rink war tête." (Say it aloud.) Only Peter Schickele could inflict that one...
I'm not sure who is more ignorant: the stereotypical dumb blond or the quaintly sexist quiz master (who can't pronounce "Hungary").

It's made me cringe when I saw it Roland. To be honest some Britons would be just as bad

I liked the way she couldn't believe the boy had tricked her. Like that would be hard! And yes, the presenter saying 'hungry' was hugely annoying too.
