This cat was encountered by the back door of the house where my mother was born and brought up in Millstreet. The other feral cats ran but this one stood her ground and swore copiously at me. It didn't take me long to find out why...

ReplyDeleteWe encountered a herd of tusked feral hogs in the middle of my country route last week. The babies finished up the procession of about 70 hogs or so at the back. They were snorting and wagging their fat little tails.

I've seen momma ferals take on 30 pound raccoons and dogs over kittens, so I'm not surprised at the reaction.
ReplyDeleteWhen I used to work at the British Library in the old site at Bloomsbury, there was a gang of feral cats who were "employed" by the British Museum and Library to keep the rodents down.
ReplyDeleteI used to see them (along with the caretaker who looked after them) when I walked through the gates at around 8:30am just before visitors would turn up. They would be basking in the sun light and I recall one of the younger cats (pretty much a kitten still) who was a beautiful b/w tearing the guts out of a pigeon being watched by "mum"....!!
The caretaker would whistle and they would literally stand to attention and follow him. He was the only one they "allowed" to stroke them....
Btw: you have some wonderful pix of cats. I really wish I could have a moggie but the lease on my flat stipulates no animals.....

That does not surprise me Bryan I can imagine that the raccoon backed off too!
Ahh I can imagine they were a pretty contented lot especially if they were getting extra rations! It's a shame you can't have a cat harpymarx. They are such wonderful companions.
