Photo Hunt - Together
The theme for this week's Photo Hunt is together. This Sunday the the people of UK come together to commemorate our war dead. These photos were taken at the Field of Remembrance at Westminster Abbey today
Ooopps....! When I look closer, then only I notice those are cross. But at one glance it sure does looks like mini bag maybe carrying a blessing for the dead.
Wow. I didn't realize what they were. So many....that's a sobering thought. Thanks for tackling this subject and reminding us what we have to be grateful for.
that's a lovely take on the theme, especially as, without wanting to sound much older than I am, the youth of today do not seem to comprehend what these men and women sacrificed for us.
thank you for sharing this one jams, I enlarged the photo prior to reading what you said. I recognized the Poppy, and remember Flanders field.
In Flanders Fields
In Flanders fields the poppies blow Between the crosses, row on row, That mark our place; and in the sky The larks, still bravely singing, fly Scarce heard amid the guns below.
We are the dead. Short days ago We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow, Loved, and were loved, and now we lie In Flanders fields.
Take up our quarrel with the foe: To you from failing hands we throw The torch; be yours to hold it high. If ye break faith with us who die We shall not sleep, though poppies grow In Flanders fields. — Lt.-Col. John McCrae
It took so many brave souls to bring about peace. It's a shame that we can't remember more often...what is that phrase? "Those who fail to remember the past are doomed to repeat it..." I think that's correct. This is just one reason why I feel such a kindred spirit with our UK brethren. ~~~Blessings~~~
I was wondering why all the news journalists on the BBC have been wearing poppies all week! What a beautiful idea for the theme and beautiful photos too. Happy weekend L
What a different take on together, on so many levels!! Thanks for a thought provoking post. We will be remembering our war dead on the 11th here, and I hope we get a turn out this large!
we will be celebrating Rememberance Day on Nov 11th...like England this is a day we celebrate and give thanks to those who gave their lives for our country....great photo
These are wonderful shots. Interesting how the crosses and poppies are done. We remember on Nov. 11 with Veterans Day. There will be flags placed at the crosses in the National Cemetaries. Always an awesome sight also. Thanks for this reminder that is takes the world to have peace, and for dropping by earlier.
My younger kids had a Veteran's Day presentation at school on Friday. It culminated in a big drive for items to send to the soldiers stationed overseas.
I for one was really happy to see the school recognizing the sacrifices of these soldiers/heroes.
Oh what a very nice take on the theme, since the world did come together to remember their dearly departed at the beginning of this month.
