The title of this blog comes from a Gaelic expression -"putting on the poor mouth"-which means to exaggerate the direness of one's situation in order to gain time or favour from creditors.

WW -Screen shot
Taken at the the Tate Gallery. This week's entry for the Tuesday and Wednesday editions of Wordless Wednesday
My guess: Overhead shot of a woman at the shore, just at the edge of the waterline. Looks like maybe she got caught by a wave she wasn't expecting to come up so high.
This is really neat! It looks like a blown up newspaper photo, where you get all those rough pixels. Hmm... wonder what the headlines would be to accompany this photo???
It's a still from the very eerie and brilliant 60s horror film Carnival of Souls, I believe. It's well worth a look if your taste runs to unusual and atmospheric horror cinema.
That's a beautiful print, it has both the apocalyptic qualities but also a serenity to it. And the grainy texture adds to both effects.
it's not technically part of WW, but you might like the Dystopia photo exhibit I reviewed this weekend. http://www.ptank.com/blog/2009/02/first-thursday-and-mission-arts-performance-project/
Is that a special exposition ? I only see an old woman, I am not even sure it's a painting. Anyway nothing for my living room, lol !
BTW Kim hadn't her hair cut (poor thing) but brushed ! All this fur laying on the floor came out by brushing ! She never lets me do it myself. She is very shy.
Dont quite understand the art but think i saw a lady and a cow?;p
ReplyDeleteHappy WW!
That looks quite freaky to me whatever that is :P

ReplyDeleteThat's so interesting. At first I thought it was a photograph of someone on the beach and then I realized it was canvas.
ReplyDeleteHUMMMM! strange!
ReplyDeleteI like all the speculation ;). Thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteLittle girl in the waves!
ReplyDeleteI thought it was something creepy, but when I looked really close, it's a girl on a shore.
ReplyDeleteThanks everyone. The exhibition had a screen showing clips from apocalyptic and eerie films. I took a few shots and I sort of like dthis one.
ReplyDeleteEgg you are quite right!
Very "decisive moment."
ReplyDeleteIt looks kinda haunting to me :)
ReplyDeleteGreat shot. I had to look twice but now I see the little girl in the water. I wasnt sure what she was doing at first. Happy WW:)

Looks like an old woman on a snow-covered ground to me but of course, I read your explanation :)

ReplyDeleteYes, very 'odd', and yet... there is a certain 'something' about it. Very interesting, Jams.

For some reason that picture brings to mind the horror movie The Ring. Would love to see it in person.
ReplyDeleteI'm guessing she's walking at the edge of the water, but it sure looks as if she's floating.
ReplyDeleteVery cool.
Neat shot, Jams.
ReplyDeleteCool shot! I'd love to go to tate someday.
ReplyDeleteI'm not sure about the explanation behind this shot but it's intriguing.

I like how the wave seems to be going uphill. Rather disorienting.
ReplyDeleteCreepy indeed.

ReplyDeleteVery haunting. Looks like a terrible scene from a war zone.
