The television highlight of 2009 was certainly a sequence in Last Chance to See in which a Kakapo mated with the neck of Zoologist and tv presenter Mark Carwardine.
Since tv loves a repeat so does the Poor Mouth... enjoy!
Now it seems that no good deed goes unrewarded: New Zealand’s prime minister has given the hero of the footage a job in his government.
Sirocco, for that is the bird’s name, has been appointed by John Key as the world’s first “spokesbird for conservation”. Mr Key claimed that the notorious and rare bird will be the ideal ambassador for conservation.
“He’s very media-savvy, he’s got a worldwide fan base – they hang on every squawk that comes out of his beak. He’ll be a great official spokesbird for New Zealand,” he said.“Sirocco can speak very loudly on this topic and by the end of this campaign people will be a lot more aware of what’s going on.”
Well there you have it. Humping a tv presenter on television can have its benefits. I daresay it would lead the rest of us to time at Her Majesty’s pleasure though!
I think I would pass on by if I had that opportunity!
