The title of this blog comes from a Gaelic expression -"putting on the poor mouth"-which means to exaggerate the direness of one's situation in order to gain time or favour from creditors.
I wish that folks abroad would respect the political process in America. I do not see hysterical headlines in the USA about one side or another in your elections.
It would be nice if the people who run the Guardian would show the American citizenry about 1/10 of the respect that they do for Hugo Chavez.
One of the sites I regularly read is Harry's Place. I am astonished at the combination of arrogance and genuine ignorance at some of the so called America experts there. Sorry, but one does not gain any genuine insight by reading the New York Times, Huffington Post and an occasional visit to NYC.
The people of the UK with rare exception are grown adults capable of making rational choices about who their leaders should be. It would be nice if the folks in the UK would show similar courtesy to the American people.
THe Greens have no chance of making inroads in this system. The lib De,s may well hold the balance. However, the leader appears more pro Tory. Labour for all its faults has done a lot of genuine good, minumum wage and many other things.
THe Tories will feather the nest of their friends. Public services will be screwed.
I'll be giving my support for proportionate democracy again with the Lib Dems. One day... one day... real democracy will finally reach this ancient land; and then I can turn my attention to what I really want to vote for. But it will never be for The Blues, that's for sure (unless Alzheimer's sets in).
