Better to remain silent and be thought a fool...
...than to speak out and remove all doubt. David Starkey should have borne this quote in mind before spewing shite on Newsnight
I saw that Newsnight debate, and enjoyed it immensely. So much so that I've downloaded the Flash video, and archived it on my hard drive for future delectation. It was a complete car crash for Starkey, and very well-deserved too.
I've been avoiding Newsnight because it's not good for my blood pressure, but I watched this the next morning and could hardly believe Starkey's ignorance. Seemed a bit cynical of the Beeb to have someone like that 'analysing' such momentous events.
By the way, I think the "career-ending" comment came from Owen Jones, the author of Chavs who was also on the show.

ReplyDeleteI haven't heard anything that blatant since George Wallace was the governor of Alabama and desegregation was ordered by the Federal courts.
I understand the Guardian described it as a career-ending interview.
