The title of this blog comes from a Gaelic expression -"putting on the poor mouth"-which means to exaggerate the direness of one's situation in order to gain time or favour from creditors.

Star crossed lovers (Photo Hunt Dirty)
© 2011 Shaun P Downey
Their eyes met across a stamen: one an ambush predator, the other a simple collector of nectar. It was a love that should never be, a love that would disgust the other denizens of the Hope Cottage gardens. Never before had a Hexapodan* embraced a Cheliceratan* but that did not concern Crabeo and Hoverette.
Personally I think it's dirty and this in keeping with this week's photo hunt

* Hexapoda is the subphylum (unit of taxonomy) that includes insects includes all insects; Chelicerata includes spiders

Photo Hunt - Stripes
The theme for this week's Photo Hunt is stripes. Again I don;t have a lot that fits in wth the theme so shere's a repeat of hover fly photo posted originally in 2007. Also a bumble bee that chooses not to flaunt its delicious stripines... or should that be hoops? Ah well another stretched theme!
My cast means that I still can't spend too much time at the pc so please bear with me

Photo Hunt - Party

The theme for this week's Photo Hunt is party. The problem is that it's ben ages since I went to one. The last one was for my mum and dad's golden wedding anniversary. Their parish priest made it extra special by presenting him with a benemerenti medal. Sadly those photos are stuck on a broken external HDD. Ah well so it's going to have to be something insect related instead. Our garden in June and July is a magnet for insects. It sometimes feels like it's a party and and most of the phylum arthropoda is invited!
