The title of this blog comes from a Gaelic expression -"putting on the poor mouth"-which means to exaggerate the direness of one's situation in order to gain time or favour from creditors.

Amrita Shergill exhibition - well worth visiting
If you are in London and you want to go to an art exhibtion the Amrita shergill (or Shergil or Sher-gil) exhibition at the Tate Modern is well worth visiting. I know it's up against a huge retrospective of Gilbert and George's work and there is a major Hogarth exhibition at the Tate Britain but I was glad I went. To the best of my knowledge there aren't any examples of her art on display in a British gallery so it is a wonderful opportunity to see a prodigous talent whose life was cut short so young.
The above pictures all appear at the exhibition and are photos of postcards or of plates. Click here and here for my earlier posts on Amrita Shergill
They are beautiful paintings
ReplyDeleteGreat posts with stunning images. I would like to cross-post some images with credits of course. Hope that's OK with you.
ReplyDeleteGlad you liked them but be aware that I have probably broken a load of copyright laws publishing them here myself!
ReplyDeleteDear Jams, thanks for the warning but I think several images of these paintings are available online. I have been searching online recently. In any case, reprodcution for non-commercial purposes with credits should keep us safe!

ReplyDeletewell i went over to her estate in saraya today where she spent a part of her married life. Since it's in a rural place in India, it reflects in many of her paintings. And they are all stunning. Wish I could see the real paintings!!
