The title of this blog comes from a Gaelic expression -"putting on the poor mouth"-which means to exaggerate the direness of one's situation in order to gain time or favour from creditors.
Pagan indeed, James; it even says so in the work's subtitle.
That music has inspired the greatest choreographers from Nijinsky (the first) to the present day. IMHO, the music never grows stale, and as many performances as I've seen, each new one seems like a first encounter with the work. I'm not one to use the word "genius" casually, but Stravinsky earned it this time.
