Photo Hunt - Beauty and the Beast

The theme for this week's PhotoHunt is pink. What could be more beautiful thatn aa fragant pink Ferdinand Pichard rose? For a while in spring the rose bush was home to a crab spider. The crab spider (Misumena vatia) does not weave webs, rather it waits to ambush ussuspecting insects as they fly in for pollen. She may look rather fearsome but she is tiny (10mm or less than hald an inch).

Beautiful!! I must admit I was ready to close my eyes quickly -because of your warning at tnchick's- but I guess a white spider is not as scary as a black one...never saw one before.
Happy hunting and happy weekend!

Mine's up too.

I'm wondering now if all crab spiders are tiny: I caught two in my camera this summer, a black hairy one and a silvery/translucent one (but not like yours). They are just fascinating. Your photos are stunning.

What a lovely rose!! What are the conditions for growing such roses? Are they as easy to grow as the common types? I wonder if it can survive in a tropical climate. I would love to get my hands on this..... er, not the spider please. ^-^

Oh what a lovely rose. I'm so happy that you captured the spider. I enjoy taking pictures of them. Crab spiders are one of my favorites. Jumpers are currently at the top of that list.

Aaaaahhhh! I was admiring the beautiful rose, then I saw the scairty spider inside. I guess I should look carefully before I stick my little nose into a pretty flower for a sniff!

The rose looks like raddicio. Is that how you spell it?

Amazing shots! That flower is beautiful. :) It's houseguest isn't. ;)

Siani said...

Lovely pics, Shaunie. I'd love a sniff of that rose - minus the crab spider. So glad to hear it's tiny, rather than tarantula-sized. I've just posted a few pink pics, too.
