India's Daughter Named

I missed this at the weekend but the young Indian woman who was the victim of a horrific rape in India last December has finally been named. The People identified her as Jyoti Singh Pandey after her father gave his permission for her to be named.

Her father Badri said  “We want the world to know her real name.My daughter didn’t do anything wrong, she died while protecting herself.I am proud of her. Revealing her name will give courage to other women who have survived these attacks. They will find strength from my daughter.”

He said: “The people of India have given us strength to cope up with our loss. I feel she’s not just my daughter but also India’s daughter. I used to read about rape incidents in the newspapers but never digested it much. We’re so thankful to the people who came out to protest against the barbarity.”
DNA tests have linked five men and a 17-year-old from the bus with rape and murder.. The 17-year-old will be tried separately as a juvenile.

Badri now hopes mothers and fathers will teach their sons to respect women. He said: “The police cannot handle this on their own. But parents need to keep an eye on their children too.”
Indian law prohibits naming a rape victim unless she authorises it or, if she is dead, her family agrees to it.

Sadly Jyoti joins the likes of Neda and Meena as dead icons.  Her death was appalling. One can only hope that some change comes fro it

Bowie's Back!

I thought that Reality would be Bowie's last hurrah but clearly not.  After a silence of nearly 10 yearsBowie has ust released a new single and a new album is being released in March.

On first hearing I'm not that taken by the new single. It may grow on me.I will be interested in hearing what the new album sounds like  though

More Aliases Than Brain Cells

Well Freedom is something Robinson/Lennon/Harris won't be experiencing freedom for a little while (photo from Hope Not Hate)

Whether he is called Tommy Robinson or Stephen Yaxley-Lennon or PaulHarris or whatever, this man has more aliases than brain cells

The leader of the English Defence League has just been jailed for 10 months for using someone else's passport to travel to the USA. Lennon/Robinson/Harris/?, 30, from Luton, admitted possession of a false identity document with improper intention. He used a passport in the name of Andrew McMaster to board a Virgin Atlantic flight from Heathrow to New York, Southwark Crown Court was told.

Lennon et al had previously been refused entry to the US and used a friend's passport to travel to the country in September. He used a self check-in kiosk to board the flight at Heathrow and was allowed through when the document was checked in the bag-drop area.

But when Lennon arrived at New York's JFK Airport, customs officials took his fingerprints and realised he was not travelling on his own passport. Lennon was asked to attend a second interview but managed to leave the airport. He stayed one night and travelled back to the UK the following day using his own legitimate passport, which bears the name of Paul Harris.

In mitigation, Lennon's barrister Giles Cockings told the court the passport was not stolen and his client had only used it for a day.

Robinson/Lennon/Harris/?  is clearly an arsehole. The most obviously funny aspect of the case is that  a racist anti imigration thug was caught as an illegal entrant himself!

The Case of the Feline Felon

It was a cat-astrophe for inmates of a Brazilian prison when a furry fiend was detained on entry carrying a mobile phone, saw blades, and drill bits

 Photo from the Daily Telegraph

According to the Telegraph and several other papers the cat had been trained by inmates of the Alagoas prison in NE Brazil  to deliver mobile phones and tools that could help them dig an escape  tunnel.

The cat had attracted the attention of prison guards because of its frequent trips to and from the jail.
Upon closer inspection they found blades and a drill attached to the cat's stomach.
"An agent saw the cat and went to look at it closely because something about it seemed wrong," Marcelo Avelino, head of the prison guards' union told the O Globo newspaper.
"We were very surprised by this new tactic of the prisoners."

The cat, not being a stool pigeon, is not ratting out the ones who trained it.
