Hawkwind - Angels of Death

Not Hawkwind's best song by any means but it was a live standard for many years after its appearance on the 1981 album Sonic Attack (not one of their best albums either).

Yeah, Sonic Attack is one of their weaker offerings, but I have always liked Angels of Death and it is a good live track. Huw looks like a different person.

I remember it's release well. I had just started university and had found a fellow Hawkwind freak. We sat his room giving it its first play and we both thought "Well that wasn't very good, was it?"

It didn't stop us seeing them at the Southampton Gaumont later that month and at the Stroud leisure centre in December!

Know what I heard on the way home from work today?

The Soft Boys 'I Wanna Destroy You!' Not really my kind of music but I listened to it in honor of you, jams!

One of my favourites but you have to hear the Circle Jerks/Debbie Gibson cover (I kid you not!)

Hee! Now there's a blast from the past.

I used to have soooo many hawkwind albums, but left them behind when I moved to the USA.

I hope you at least taped them Linda. Most of Hawkwind's back catalogue is hard to get now.

Not on e-bay its not. You get pretty much every Hawkwind release there. Chronicle of the Black Sword and the Xenon Codex are quite rare though so they generally go for pretty steep prices.

Very true frolix. I'd also forgotten the Rock Fever "bootlegs" have at least made Quark, Astounding, Hawklords, Warriot and PXR5 affordable... even if you get Moorcock's dreadful New World's Fair with PXR5. Xenon is worth getting on CD if you don't have it. I had the vinyl and I thought it was poor stuff. THe CD release really sounds so much better. It feels like a whole different album.

I heard the Circle Jerk version on your blog last year, jams. See, I really was paying attention all this time.
