The title of this blog comes from a Gaelic expression -"putting on the poor mouth"-which means to exaggerate the direness of one's situation in order to gain time or favour from creditors.

Oscar and a feline hero
Another photo of the previous alpha cat Oscar taken just before he died. Even as an old gent he ruled Ted with an iron paw; Robyn was a very comfortable pillow.
Cats need heroes and if they could choose I'm sure Begemot from the Master and Margarita. Despite his name he certainly looks nothing like a hippo! This week's entry for Friday Ark and Carnival of the Cats.

I like that - "cats need heroes". Oscar was lovely.
Now Robyn is nearly big enough to qualify as a "Behemoth".
Wickedly funny book in Russian, especially at the end of a course on social realist "literature". People should read Gogol, especially "The Nose", to see the basis for Bulgakov.
Oscar still looks like he needs a bow tie and cigar.
... and heroes need cats?
Aww Oscar was gorgeous!
He was a lovely old fellow Welshcakes. We blubbed plenty whenhe died.
Of cpurse James. Behind every hero is a cat howling for dinner.
Thanks Nunyaa. He was so handsome in his prime
Haha Bryan. I don't have the Russian to read Master in the original but I love Gogol.
Very handsome old gent! This earth is now minus one hero for sure.
very true Lisa. He was king of his domain and the scourge of local cats, birds, mice, insects.....
