The title of this blog comes from a Gaelic expression -"putting on the poor mouth"-which means to exaggerate the direness of one's situation in order to gain time or favour from creditors.
I memorized the words to 'The Revolution Will Not Be Televised' so long ago they became part of my inner dialogue so I was never surprised (although disappointed) when US television ignored all protests that weren't convenient to their advertisers.
I'll miss knowing he's still here but at least he did get a new album done before he left.
"Well, the first thing I want to say is Mandate my ass." And he continues, with his baritone voice, in a clean, calm, unafraid, incisive language, to expose clearly the electorate farce. And the music, following each essential word, never misses a note and a beat.
You can apply it to any candidate of any party, in any election of any country. We're living in fictional times. We're all actors in a B Movie...
When those high-level politicians die, the reality is totally hidden. A big show is produced. And we're served the "heroic deeds" they supposedly accomplished to save their country, and the world. It's sickening...
Gil Scott-Heron saw it so well. I pray that more and more people listen to his voice, and open their ears and their eyes.
