The title of this blog comes from a Gaelic expression -"putting on the poor mouth"-which means to exaggerate the direness of one's situation in order to gain time or favour from creditors.

And an Aubrey Maturin favourite
Aubrey and Maturin playing part of Boccherini's "La Musica Notturna delle Strade di Madrid. No. 6, Op. 30"
I loved the book, the film wasn't bad but perhaps I had too high expectations! Still Crowe was good as Jack although Bettany should have been a bit dirtier etc to play Maturin

Films of loved books ALWAYS fall short of expectations. But Crowe was very good. The rest was just OK. I enjoyed the visualization of those days.
Films of books almost always disappoint to some extent. Still it ws beautifully filmed
