Such long wings, and rather fragile. There should be a Southern Hawker Dragonfly Protection Agency. If you want to be the Honorary Patron, I'll start collecting some money here.
They are so amazing! My (English) grandmother was allegedly terrified of dragonflies, as in phobic. I can't relate. I think they're one of the most wonderful creatures in the garden.
I guess this one had reached the end of its lifespan. :(

It is truly beautiful insect. I had never seen one up close before. Sadly the agency would not protect it Shirl found it dead yesterday
