The title of this blog comes from a Gaelic expression -"putting on the poor mouth"-which means to exaggerate the direness of one's situation in order to gain time or favour from creditors.

The Spirit of Christmas in Hornchuch
As seen adorning a house in Osborne Road, Hornchurch. I wish had seen it last week. Still better late than never!
I was not in the most festive mood this year. I ate a lot of good chocolate, though! Don't know how I would get through it without chocolate and champaign. :-)
Ha! Fantastic! I actually enjoyed Christmas this year. I have boycotted it more often than not, spending many Christmas Days alone and IN PEACE. My family gathering has shrunk down to me and five others in which group the love and affection between us is real and unforced. Just lovely. But that exists at any time. So many people suffer through Christmas time. False cheer, gross expectations from others to be 'happy', 'oblgations', expense, latent family issues bubbling up under the strain, and on and on. In short Christmas creates psychological distress for many of us. What a ludicrous mix of myths, (including religion), rampant consumerism, parties and mayhem. And New Year's Eve! I do not venture outside on a night when so many give rein to their repressed selves all together at the same bloody time.

I second that sentiment.
I certainly had you marked down as the Anti-Santa, Francis!
That is certainly a different take on Christmas lights!
Great capture!

I can't help but feel the same Syncy. It feels such a false celebration.
Absolutely!
Glad it's over now!
