The Diver: Regeneartion Revisited


I've changed my mind about John Kaufman's riverine sculpture. On first sight I didn't care for it much but now I do really like it.

Kaufman, who died in 2002 was inspired by his grandfather who worked as a diver in the London dockyards. It is meant as a tribute to those who worked in difficult and dangerous circumstances. The more I see it the more I feel it is a fine work

The Diver: Regeneration


or just known as the Diver the statue is located in the Thames at Rainham. As is obvious the tide was out when I visited - usually it is partially submerged. Twice a year it it completely underwater. I will have to consult the tide tables before visiting again so I can get some photos of it partially submerged.
