The title of this blog comes from a Gaelic expression -"putting on the poor mouth"-which means to exaggerate the direness of one's situation in order to gain time or favour from creditors.
My father used to say that every grey hair represents a moment of joy. If so, my beard alone speaks of a lifetime of great happiness!
I love the expressions on musicians' faces when they perform. There are times when they (I should say "we"; I still consider myself a musician, even if I am retired from it) seem to enter another world for a few moments. You captured that well in the top picture of Robyn.
(Blogger comments seem to have gone full-blown [expletive deleted] crazy, in their ambiguity between Blogger and Blogger beta. I hope they fix it soon.)
I am working on an end of the year piece where I get some of my favorite bloggers to give me their 3 favorite records of the year, and a quick explanation as to why they picked them. Would you be down to contribute? If you are, just email me at ogfatso(at)hotmail.com.
Kust shaved mine off but it was a very happy beard too Steve! He is a wonderful artist. I'm seeing him again next month and now I look at it again it does look that way doesn't it?
I've still not moved to beta. I will try and put it off as long as possible
Roland I will be delighted to participate. I will send an e-mail in the next couple of days.
The angels weep with joy every time Robyn gets a new fan Mullet. Seriously he is a unique talent. It is a pity he hasn't had greater success. A couple of his albums grazed the charts in teh US but nothing here.. and Coldplay go multiplatinum what a strange world it is!
Dareth not speak of the sissified music movement led by the whiniest of them all, Coldplay. Keane (Keene?) is somewhere up there too. With the exception of "Talk" and "Trouble", Coldplay is overrated. Five For Fighting is just one dude but he's whiny enough to be in the same league as Coldplay.
ewbl.. I hear Coldplay and I have one word.. Why! it is dull unchallenginf and insipid.. Keane aren't much better.. Five for fighting? that one is new to me!
WE tend to stay with the music of our teens/early 20s. I do with punk, new wave and (yes) some HM (if the long hair and spandex style rather than the rap and shaved head stuff you get today). Although there are some bands I've picked up along the way I want to hear the clash rather than the Arctic Monkeys.
It comes to us all I suppose. John Peel was a glowing exception!

Has Robyn's entrancing guitar playing even sent him off to the land of nod in the top piccie?
