The title of this blog comes from a Gaelic expression -"putting on the poor mouth"-which means to exaggerate the direness of one's situation in order to gain time or favour from creditors.

Fur das Kind - more photos
The Kindertransport memorials at Liverpool Street Station have been the subject of several posts already (click here, and here for two of them).
I was pleased to find a CD of some photos I took in 2003, just after the first Kindertransport memorial, Fur Das Kind was unveiled by Sir Nicholas Winton. I would spend time ujust looking at the items the children brought with them. most poignant were the family photos - in most cases their parents and other siblings were murdered during the Holocaust. It is a shame that Fur Das Kind's design was flwaed. the items are back at teh Imperial War Museum. I wish I knew where the statue of the girl is

Haunting and interesting all at the same time, jams.
It was a wonderful monument. Shame it didn't work
I would like to clatify that the glass case worked fine while it was maintained. Maintenance lapsed when maintenace change hands. However that was not the reason Für Das Kind was removed. Planning application was approved to replace the glass case with a bronze one and to add seated boy, however one of facilitators of the project saw an opportunity to "raise their profile further" by tampering with the project and unilaterally removing Für Das Kind. Neither the artist nor the donors or other facilitators and supporters were consulted. Public outcry was ignored including the many letters sent by the Kinder themselves(rescued children). Sadly, a memorial conceived to celebrate the best of human behaviour became an opportunity for some to advance themselves without any regards for others. Documentation for this case is available in the Corporation of London, Beth Din, Charity Commission, etc.
THanks for the information veronique. I didn't know that
Hi Veronica, Hi Jams,
Janneke here from the Netherlands. Interesting matter...I would really like to know more about why the statue of Flor Kent was replaced by the new one from artist Frank Meisler. What do you meen by facilitators 'raising their profile' and can you tell me more about why the former 'children' did not want a new statue (the current one)?
Thanks and kind regards!
Hi I can't answer for veronica but the display part of Fur das Kind was not a success and the artefacts were at risk of damage.
I do not really like the replacement
Hi Fur Das Kind has just returned. I blogged it here http://bit.ly/jI86KJ and gave a link back to your excellent original article.
I saw it was back last week Peter. Sadly I could not go to the rededication ceremony.
I am so glad that it is back where it should be - at Liverpool St station. The replacement statue in Hope Sq has never engaged me
