The title of this blog comes from a Gaelic expression -"putting on the poor mouth"-which means to exaggerate the direness of one's situation in order to gain time or favour from creditors.
I was just listening to Nirvana Unplugged. I'm more of an Alice in Chains fan myself but certainly it was a marvelous performance. Good choice with Bowie also. Cheers.
I still think That this song is bloody hard to butcher. I remember when Lulu had a hit with this in the 70s. I don't think her version is that bad but nowhere hear as good as the other two.

Oh he does. He went off the boil for years but he came back with a vengeance with Heathen.

THe Man who sold the world is one of thiose songs you can't screw up. One of my all time favourite songs.
I was never a big grunge fan myself though.
XM radio plays the Nirvana version a lot. I prefer the Bowie and I give a vigorous middle finger to the LULU version. That just reeked.

I agree with you about Heathen Jams - it's a great album with some sublime Bowie moments, most notably 'Slow Burn' and 'Everyone says hi'
It really was a revelation after so long churning out substandard fare
