The title of this blog comes from a Gaelic expression -"putting on the poor mouth"-which means to exaggerate the direness of one's situation in order to gain time or favour from creditors.

Fuchsia magellanica
This week's entry for the Tuesday and Wednesday edition of Wordless Wednesday is the flower of Fuchsia magellanica, a plant that reminds me of holidays in SW Ireland
We struggle with Fuschias here in Adelaide, with the intense drought and the high temperatures. Lovely plants. Jacarandas are the plant life of choice en ce moment.
At first I thought it was a bright squid (I'm talking first glance upon loading). So I'm thinking that this flower has a life of it's own to trick me that way. It's beautiful.
I remember seeing those fuchsias growing in the hedgerows of Kerry and Cork. Lovely pic. I hope the fuchsia gall mite doesn't get too strong a grip here - it's a nasty little beggar. Happy WW!
Another lovely shot. Do you change the background to black or do you set up the shot that way? You inspired me with your flower pic, so I posted one too.
Vixen I get the dark bckground by stopping down the lens and ensuring that there is as little as possible behind the subject. With the stopped down lens the background is usually rather underexposed. A little tweak to teh lighting levels can usually darken out any bit of background

Gorgeous colors!!!! It reminds of some vintage jewelry I have.
So I wonder -- is fuchsia the color named after fuchsia the flower, or is it the other way around?? Happy WW.
