A Class Enemy and a Pet Peeve

The Indy reports that Ed Miliband has accused David Cameron of defending the interests of Britain's top one per cent and claims the Prime Minister is incapable of standing up for the remaining 99 per cent.

In an interview with The Independent, Miliband  declared: "The social exclusion of those at the top is as much of a problem for our society in this era as the social exclusion of those at the bottom of society... David Cameron really is doing a terrific job of looking after the vested interests, the privileged, the powerful and the wealthiest one per cent. It's the other 99 per cent who feel desperately let down." He added: "David Cameron doesn't get it. It is not in his DNA. It is not what drives him in his politics. Working for a more responsible, fairer capitalism is not what gets him up in the morning. Even he would be hard pressed to claim it was his raison d'etre."

Miliband does not spring any real surprise on us. I doubt anyone was taken in by Cameron's hug a hoodie shite after he became Tory leader. Cameron does not give  shit for the 99%, never has and never will.

On thing that really gets my goat though is Miliband using the abbreviation of Deoxyribonucleic Acid the way he did. Most management technobabble irritates me slightly, some irritates me a lot. DNA in this context annoys me.

On the other hand Cameron, being a Tory of his stripe (not the old fashioned "One-Nation" Tory) Perhaps he has the evil gene

£2 Million for little old socialist me? Well who'd have thunk it!

I am impressed that William Hague can find the time to pull himself away from the situation in the Middle East to process this claim. Such personal attention is laudable

Naturally this windfall won't change my lifestyle significantly. I might set aside enough to have Andrew Rosindell, our poltroon of an MP tarred and feathered... or is that a mark of ingratitude.

Well it made a change from the usual 419 scam email!

Wherein Jams O’Donnell pledges his allegiance to the Conservative Party

After nearly 27 years as a loyal Labour Party member why would I now wish to switch parties and become a Conservative?

Well here’s why. It is because David Cameron will almost certainly be in a position both to slash taxes and massively increase public spending in the very near future, This is due to the discovery of a guaranteed way to ensure that the economy gathers pace by leaps and bounds

It can be revealed that David Cameron has held high level discussions with Bank of England Governor Mervyn King. Both have discovered a strategy that will form a route map to prosperity.

It is a matter of record that both Cameron and King are Aston Vila supporters (Cameron’s uncle was once the Chairman of Aston Villa so it is a case of the young lad coveting the uncle’s train set I suppose). Both have noticed that the club’s greatest successes over the last 30 years have come at times when the economy was in recession. Again this is correct: Aston Villa last achieved a high place in the league’s top flight in the early 90s (during the last recession) and won the European Cup in 1982. If success comes in recession then it follows that failure will lead to economic success

Speaking to Andre Marr yesterday Cameron stated "The Governor of the Bank of England and I realised that that Villa tend to do better when the economy is doing badly so Villa doing badly is a sign of better economic times to come.”

“However, we have decided to take action to safeguard the economy at Villa’s expense. As a life long supporter it does hurt – I may never be able to show my face at Vila Park again - but it is in the best interests of the economy and the country as a whole to ensure that Villa’s season is as dreadful as possible.”

“I have formed a special committee, consisting of myself, the Chancellor, the Chief Secretary to the Treasury and the Secretary f state for Culture, Media and Sport to determine the best way to ensure that Villa is relegated to the Championship this season and to Leagues One and Two and finally to the bottom of the Conference before the next election. “

"Economists have already predicted that this should effectively increase growth of somewhere between 3.5 and 4.5% per annum. This will not only allow us to meet the deficit but also to significantly reduce both direct and indirect taxation while at the same time allowing for substantial public sector growth.”

Well there you have it. While Osborne was on the verge of repairing the country’s fortunes by taking up offers form every retired brigadier in west Africa, David Cameron has discovered a sure fire way to restore Britain’s greatness.

… I would of course still much rather have my testicles removed with a rusty chisel than join the Tories or even vote for them

A small spit in the face of public servants but still a spit

Wrong finger but we get the message

It’s not uncommon for governments to bring in placemen into departments as special advisors. Labour did it and the Tories did it when they were previously in power. I’m not saying that it’s right but it is done.

A personal photographer is a different matter though. If Cameron. According to the Guardian (and plenty of other sources) the Cabinet Office has confirmed it had given Andrew Parsons, a former Tory party employee described as Mr Cameron’s “vanity photographer”, a job in the civil service.
Nicky Woodhouse, a filmmaker who has made hundreds of the 'web Cameron' films for the Tory party, has also been put on the civil service payroll.

The pair have been hired by the Cabinet Office on a one year contract, worth around £35,000 each, with a brief to work across all Government departments.

The jobs were not advertised to anyone else and their positions did not exist under the last Government.

The Government announced a recruitment freeze not long after they took power. So much for that then. Okay this is not a huge issue in the grand scheme of things but it sends a message to civil servants facing the axe – a message of utter arrogance on the part of the Government.

If nearly half a million jobs are going, slashing the number of people to provide essential services and deliver policies then why the hell is there money for a personal photographer?

David Cameron had better be able to perform miracles

If not he really needs to read Bert Weedon’s “Water into Wine in a Day” sometime soon if he is going to avoid the fate of his predecessors John Major, William Hague, Iain Duncan-Smith and Michael Howard (not that I want him to avoid that fate of course). Today’s Observer has a poll which shows Labour 7 points ahead of the Tories. This figure is of less interest to some of the other findings:

  • nearly 40 per cent of those polled want an election within weeks; 70% of people want an election by spring.
  • Brown is regarded as best able to handle a crisis by 60% of voters, compared with 13% for Cameron. Brown leads Cameron on this issue even among Tory voters.
  • Cameron even trails Brown on one of his key issues, the environment (34% Brown, 22% Cameron)
  • Voters believe that Labour will win the next general election: 71% believe Labour will win a majority; just 12% believe the Tories will win; Only 29% of Tories think they will win the next election.

This must have made grim reading for Cameron. The Tory party conference should be the ideal place for him to gain back some lost ground. On the other hand if the party rank and file are in a fractious mood then next week could be the kiss of death for him.
