The title of this blog comes from a Gaelic expression -"putting on the poor mouth"-which means to exaggerate the direness of one's situation in order to gain time or favour from creditors.
Wow. I never imagined this, yet I can't imagine a different grave for that brilliant man.
@_@ That's a lot of kiss marks on that statue!
I would of guessed and wrongly so, that this was a statue from the terracotta army, how uneducated is that :)
What would oscar think of this, I wonder.
Great Man!Those are real lip marks or somebody painted them?? Not sure whether to appreciate or not. Thanks for the glimpse!
You could've snuck that one into Ruby Tuesday as well!Interesting shot for sure!
Super shot! This is a beautiful cemetery that I would love to visit one day :)Happy WW :) My WW entries for today are at:Pastyme With Good CompanyeThe Paranormal BlogNuttin' ButPlease stop by if you have a moment :)
omg...why there are lipstick everywhere..LOLthanks drop at my ww post
Ladies actually kiss it!? o.O
And a lot more men I daresay eastcoastlife!
hmmm what year was he buried and his heritage---well I can look that up --but I was just wondering if that was influencing on the choice
lots and lots of kisses!
Hi Jams, this is a nice post. Of course I couldn't let it go without checking the cemetery and his grave (On-line).No, I haven't been in this cemetery but have walked right by it."Find A Grave" tells why he is burried there and shows the whole tombstone.http://www.findagrave.com/cgi-bin/fg.cgi?page=gr&GRid=1102Happy WW!..
Who gave those kisses? Wondering if the color of the lipstick fits my lips.:-pGreat picture!
oh my...so what is the story behind all these kisses?
Great capture Jams! Oscar must have been so loved to get so many kisses.lol!Hapyy WW!
wow ... look at all the kiss marks! :)
Very interesting picture, Jams.
Oh wow! I just loved The Picture of Dorian Gray. There's a photo of Wilde looking very dapper. His stone really suits him.
extravagant, too many kisses but good.
Ah, Jams, this heightens my wish to once ramble along this very cemetery, before taking a dwelling six feet under, myself.
Thanks everyone. Sean it is so worth the visit
So many kiss marks there! Happy WW! :)
I have visited a few times. Each time there are different graves worth seeing.
Hmmmmmm, still to this day, lots of fans/admirers!Happy early W W
Are they for real??!!THat gives me a great idea to decorate my own grave! lol.
Wow, that's amazing and very appropriate.
I adore Oscar Wilde, but had never seen this wonderful image till your post. I agree with many - what could possibly symbolize Oscar Wilde more than those kisses bestowed all over that face? The only thing worse than having lipstick all over one's memorial is not having any at all.
WOW - what a strong draw he still has!
It looks like she's about to kiss him! Something I learned from you today.
stunning photo! Jams ^_~
Hmmm.... The Hollywood Cemetery has to replace the marble plaque on Rudolph Valentino's grave periodically because the lipstick causes the marble to deteriorate. Looks like they might have a similar problem there.
very interesting..happy WW!
Is it Egyptian or Asian? I am going to check out the website that someone left...Grave sites really intrigue me, unless it's mine.~~~Blessings~~~
Very interesting... very different.
That's very touching.
LOl. Very unusual.
Cool capture!I like this.
this is quite interesting!
great grave marker for a great person... although the end of his career was a bit tragic... very interesting photo, especially with the kiss marks :)
You visit the most interesting places.
Somebody was loved, at least it looks it from all of the kiss marks.
That's a lot of lipstick marks..hehe.. one can see it is the grave of a great man ;) Excellent shot.
Wow, that's an adorable face and very interesting!
That's typical for père Lachaise cemetary, lol ! When I was there young druggies had put joints and syrenges on Jim Morrison's grave, now there are guardians and a fence around !
Thanks everyone... The graffiti on Oscar's memorial is of a higher standard. When I was there, the only guardian was a ginger and white cat who enjoyed all the attention given!
Been there! :D
How fascinating that people feel the need to kiss a grave.Thank you for sharing.
Happy WW! Very unique photo...Thanx for your earlier visit! I invite your blog readers to see where Sarah Palin was working less than two years ago on my WW-post this week...peace, Villager
Are those lipstick kisses all over the face? How funny. Happy WW and thanks for stopping by:)
This indeed, does not need words. Not to me anyway!
How strange...but then, considering the man, perhaps not. Happy WW...
Great photo as usual :-)
Everybody's Wilde for Oscar!
Haha they certainly are EWBL!
