The title of this blog comes from a Gaelic expression -"putting on the poor mouth"-which means to exaggerate the direness of one's situation in order to gain time or favour from creditors.

Heterodopta davidbowie (for God's sake skip this post Cherie!)
With the exception to the daddylonglegs,(which are still creepy, but they kill other insects/spiders)
....the only good spider, is a dead spider! and that said, 'cause we constantly are dealing with Black Widows. Had to teach the kiddies young, to be able to spot and avoid them.
thanks, Jams...nothing like a creepy spidy pic to greet one with her early morning coffee and reading perusal.... ;)
I take a different view to spiders. I love all of the spiders we have in our garden. THat said I would be less favourable if I had to deal with Black Widos or Brown Recluses!
I don't particularly like spiders. But I truly admire their artistic work. Once, as a little girl, for hours I watched a spider weave an intricate web. I was filled with wonder. I vowed never to kill a spider unless it would be harmful. I don't want them in my house. I gently guide them to the outside world when they visit me.
The one you're showing is a beauty. I hope it's not 'une femme fatale'...

Jams, was that absolutely necessary?

If we hadd venomous species here I would take a different approach--- basically far more careful. Otherwise I like them to be left to their devices
If a femme, probably tres fatale Claudia!
I am terrified of spiders but recognize the role that they play in out ecosystems... I just want them to do it outside IN the ecosystem...
I wonder why it is called davidbowie... The namer was a fan or because of some other reason?
I agree but harmlees spiders (to us anyway) are welcome
oh my!!!
That's a reaction I like Liz!
What an attractive spider! I am not sure if she is happy with her name.
On the other hand, very flattering for David Bowie.
Ah could be Sean!
Yep, that she is. And I just feel that I have started digging its name now.
Love it. Love the name as well. You went with the Spiders from Mars in your last post, but I'd like to humbly suggest 'Scary Monsters' as well!
Ah there you go Snoopy!
Depending onn the size it could very well be a bloody scary monster for many AFM!
I have nightmares about this kind of spider!
It certaunly has the power to scare even if I find it beautiful!
