Photo Hunt - Informative

The theme for this week's photo hunt is informative. This is a poster I saw in Paris a couple of years ago.At that time over 20 countries watched, controlled and/or censored what their citizens could access through the internet. The Great Firewall of China is well known but China is not alone sadly. I fear that the number of countries imposing internet controls may now be greater.

Great idea for the theme. I guess Big Brother is watching everything whether it's government or corporate.

Mmm. Big Brother at work. Such a shame. The internet is the composite of the world's knowledge.

Happy weekend to you Jams

Unfortunately, far too many people are willing to allow their rights to be whittled away without any concern whatsoever.

Warning: Icky-factor with my posting...

Hi jams --

Re the Great Firewall of China: One thing I have to say -- and am truly glad about that -- it doesn't include the Special Administrative Regions of China (i.e., Hong Kong and Macau). So you get interesting developments such as my Hong Kong-based blog getting zero visitors from mainland China (I'm assuming that my annual June 4th posts are what got my blog banned).

Indeed. You may add Australia to the list. Our glorious leaders are planning to introduce a firewall very similar to the Chinese one. All in the name of protecting the children, of course!

Big Brother has always been there. with internet, we leave our "footprints" all over the place.

There are Asian countries with a lot of restrictions but looking at the rising crime rate committed by people to others they have only met online, I think they are limiting these things from happening to their citizens.

As much as we want to have access to information, I myself made restrictions with my children.

Happy weekend!

Yes, the more 'free' information becomes the more some folks will try and control it and who can access it. I fear that this will be a major 'tussle' in our world over the next few years.

And growing all the time. There are now plenty of youtube videos I can't access, though that's because of copyright issues.
