The title of this blog comes from a Gaelic expression -"putting on the poor mouth"-which means to exaggerate the direness of one's situation in order to gain time or favour from creditors.

Geranium versicolor
Taken this afternoon, this is the second bloom of this species geranium. As geranium flowers go this is small, perhaps only half an inch (about 12mm) across. It goes to show beauty can come in small packages
Geraniums and Pelogoniums grow in so many varieties here and are one of my favorite. They climb, hang, bush out and ground cover. They thrive all year and some grow massive like weeds. But I have never seen one like this, so very beautiful.
It is a pretty small example of the genus and the flower is tiny by comparison. Our climate means they go dormant in the winter but this is the second time it has bloomed this hear and that we like
I'm not a fan of the geranium varieties seen around here(neither begonias), but this little specimen is gorgeous. I especially like the delicate fucshia veins running through it.
This is not like the gaudy annual, rather it is a small species perennial. While they don't flower as long I think they are more beautiful,, this is a case in point

South Africa Mullets? I am not the happiest of travellers
Now I thinkk of it I remember seeing tv progs showing the beauty of the area. It is very tempting indeed!
In the meantime I will enjoy them Cape Point vicariously through the south african plants that are now commonplace in british gardens (eg Gazanaias)
