The title of this blog comes from a Gaelic expression -"putting on the poor mouth"-which means to exaggerate the direness of one's situation in order to gain time or favour from creditors.

A venerable old lady
This week's entry for Friday Ark and Carnival of the Cats is another guest cat Hattie. I knew her as a beautiful little kitten back in 1990. She is still going strong although she is suffering from the usual problems that befall an elderly cat.
Ironically, once city cats reach that "less active" age, their life expectancy increases. They no longer go roaming, so there's less risk of them being killed by their primary predator - road traffic.
Our old cat spent more and more time asleep as she approached the age of 20. Having said that, she still had occasional outbursts of kittenish behaviour!

The lady looks good for her age. :)
She reminds me of the cat living 22 years (!) with the parents of my best friend.
I've known a few 20 year+ cats, so Hattie has a ways to go. She doesn't seem all that thrilled with the flash, but without it black cats become blobs.
She looks far better than I would have imagined Sean. It was good to receive this photo from an old friend
THat's true Bryan. I've never had a cat live as long as 20. I can imagine they are a bit decrepit by that age

THat's very true Roger. With any luck ours will get even lazier and live long lives
She still looks very nice ! She must have the same age as my Lisa (almost 17). The only thing she is interested in is eat eat and eat lol !
(my cats & funny stories)
I haven't actually seen her in years. She looks great for her age though. When they get to that age they deserve to stuff themselves!
Hattie is now eligible for the senior's discount down at the Kitty Kibble Diner!
ILOL Ewbl I hope she takes full advantage!
She's a beautiful cat. I'm loving your blog and photos!
Thanks. I'm glad you like the Poor Mouth
