The title of this blog comes from a Gaelic expression -"putting on the poor mouth"-which means to exaggerate the direness of one's situation in order to gain time or favour from creditors.

Another old joke...
A beggar asked a man if he could spare £40 for a cup of tea.
"That's a lot of money just for some tea" said the man
"Well I'm putting all my begs in one ask it"
I think I saw this one in a collection of Cassandra columns....
