The title of this blog comes from a Gaelic expression -"putting on the poor mouth"-which means to exaggerate the direness of one's situation in order to gain time or favour from creditors.
A beautiful voice from a beautiful person, never mind her tragic end. Thanks, jams, for pointing to these.
I spent part of my musical career performing Sephardic music accompanying Isabelle Ganz (New York, Tel Aviv, and oddly enough, Houston, though I toured with her only as far as Canada and western Europe), so I have a great appreciation for this literature, even if Ofra Haza's work is later and more pop than what we performed. We actually cut a record 30 years ago, though even I would be hard put to find a copy today.

Nice videos
I remember I really liked that song. Bit of a difference!
It's a wonderful song. Her album Yemite songs - her arrangements of traditional jewish songs from yemen - is beautiful
I am loving the music you post. I have never heard this one before!
I refer to my previuse comment LB. If you can find a copy give Yemeite songs a listen. One of my all time favourite albums

Ah Steve, I'd never heard of her before. I'll definitely have to look her up.
