The title of this blog comes from a Gaelic expression -"putting on the poor mouth"-which means to exaggerate the direness of one's situation in order to gain time or favour from creditors.

WW - detail
A detail from a grave at Pere Lachaise cemetery, Paris. This week's entry for the Tuesday and Wednesday edition of Wordless Wednesday.
Very cool in a creepy, Gothic sort of way. B&W was definitely the right choice. I can imagine this on a cornice of an old cathedral or opera house too. Very compelling.
Hi Jams, you are doing that Lachaise Cemetery in real fine. Thank you. Happy WW, thank you for your visit and the nice comment. .. Oh yes, I might borrow your 'one basket' joke for my Saturday morning joke. OK? ..
i should try to see this for my self... is that a beard or an effect of the shadow on the angel's face?... i like how the photo was taken, it not only shows the detail but also the texture and the play of shadow and light :)...
I love that photo. I take a lot of pics myself around cemetaries and I spent nearly a whole day at Pere Lachaise a few years ago. great place for photography.

Quite unique at the cemetery. I've got a feeling it's the tomb of a musician.
Happy TW/WW! :)
interesting! happy WT/WW ^_~.
Even after one's death, they still want their abode to be decorated. :)
That is strange and sad. That cherub has one earthy body!
Some musician's? Unique!
That's interesting. It's very detailed.

It kind of creeps me out too, that face is just a bit too realistic for my taste.
He looks quite old for a cherub. Happy WW Jams! Nice one!
very interesting. I don't know if I like the face on it though
Oh, it's fantastic! I love old cemeteries. Such intricacy for the dead raises so many questions.
Thanks everyone
Ah, that's great! Cemeteries can have very beautiful decorated graves indeed!

A cherub with a beard? Guess he's one of the older ones...

This is a novel choice for Wordless Wednesday, Jams. That's quite a chubby cherub.

Both detailed and weathered, quite a find.
It's beautiful and sort of scary at the same time...

Nice shot. I agree with Sandy about the sad quality it has. I love wandering through cemetery and grave sites and taking pictures.
