The title of this blog comes from a Gaelic expression -"putting on the poor mouth"-which means to exaggerate the direness of one's situation in order to gain time or favour from creditors.

Social Vertigo
I saw 3 Daft Monkeys supporting Hawkwind at the Astoria in December. I liked them and was pleased that they were well received my the audience (I've seen the reception other support bands have had over the years!). Silly name but a great sound
I never encounter the word "vertigo" that I do not think of Ogden Nash's poem, "Mr. Artesian's Conscientiousness," about a very efficiency-obsessed fellow. The poem concludes this way: So as a final timesaving device he stepped out the window of his office, which happened to be on the fiftieth floor,
And one of his partners asked "Has he vertigo?" and the other glanced out and down and said "Oh no, only about ten feet more."
