A royal post

Queen Elizabeth II becomes Britain's second longest reigning monarch today, her reign now having lasted longer than that of George III.

Although I am a republican by instinct, the Queen has been a good figurehead for the nation. I doubt I will say the same about her heir.

God save the (dignified, suffering) Queen! I doubt He'll care for whoever will try to reign after her.

As one of my favourite bloggers would say: Well there you have it.

Haha Claude. Perhaps he remembers why he never let the sun set on the British Epire... He didn't trust an Englishman in the dark!

I have had that same thought about the heir to the throne, bless his heart...

He's a bit of a jerk Sandy but then he does not have any role but wait until he is king. After all he's produced the next two in ine

Haha Stu that's true!

King Earzilla, you mean? :) Anyhoo, I have to say, Queen Liz has taken her job seriously and is quite devoted to public service. I wish I had half her energy. Of course, I probably WOULD have all of her energy if I had servants to wipe my bottom, squeeze my toothpaste and go bra-shopping for me...

Hmm this is TREASON Knat!!!

Ach leave poor Charles alone. He seems to be the first one ever to have really realised what a lot of nonsense the whole thing is. Do you know that when he was a teenager he asked if he could join the Labour Party, Jams? Apparently he was rather promptly told "No". Poor lad. He's done OK given the ridiculous upbringing he has had to endure, through no choice of his own (like all of us, of course, but his was ultra extreme). I am a staunch Republican, by the way (and secretly so is he, I expect).

Re me "a staunch Republican"... that is in the European anti-monarchist, vive la revolution sense, of course... not the US guns for all and justice for just us sense. Just in case anyone might misunderstand.

I think he's an arsehole but he's not evil. Perhaps when he finally does ascend the throne he will shut up and act like his mum

I am confused Knatolee. Is that all not Gordon's role? Just checking on how your household is organised.

Perhaps Gordon gets it easier than we do Andrew!
