The title of this blog comes from a Gaelic expression -"putting on the poor mouth"-which means to exaggerate the direness of one's situation in order to gain time or favour from creditors.

WW - Ingatestone Hall
This week's entry for the Tuesday and Wednesday edition of Wordless Wednesday
If any of you are interested I think it was also used in the TV drama Lady Audley's Secret. Not that the drama was that good you understand, but I do like Ingatestone Hall :-) Very nice Jams.
Happy WT/WW, Jams. This house is in nice repair, it makes me wonder how it is used now. Mrs. Jim's maiden name was Pitre (French). I think she is related to the founder, Petre, of this house. ..

What a 'deep' picture.
How English.
Have a Great WW!
Very historical!! :D
It's huge. I wonder how it looks like inside and how long one needs to walk from one end of the house to the other.
Spooky!! Reminds me of the "ghosts of Motley Hall" :) Happy WW :)
Jams, This is wonderful. The windows are magical. They reflect so much light. I'm wondering about the meaning of the place name.
Happy WW.
What a great structure. I love the stone/brick?

It's a real classic. Thanks for sharing.
On first sight I felt reminded of the old post-office in Tintagel.
However, (almost) as said above: Very British. :)
Alison will be all over this!
Is it still there? I can't remember.....
What a beautiful building. I am sure it's just as beautiful in color but I think the b&w really makes it stand out more. Great photo!
Thanks everyone!
Mmmm, I love the mysterious, forboding quality here! I suspect in colour this picture wouldn't have quite the same impact.
Great pic:) Happy WW.
Oooooh, when can I move in? Happy WW!
the desaturation effect makes it a bit eerie ... but I love it! :)
Happy WW!
Of course it's still there Chris...tsk!

If I could, I really would love to live awhile in a house like that. The romance and mystique are huge. All I can think of is Bronte sisters.
Fantastic photo, Jams. The detail that you've captured is fantastic and the black and white has a gorgeous effect. Love it!
Looks interesting. Good photo treatment. Happy WW.
Beautiful black and white photo. Absolutely fantastic!
Happy WT/WW, Jams. This house is in nice repair, it makes me wonder how it is used now.

Lovely building, and the black and white creates much more atmosphere
Very historical building. And cool colour effects too (=

Thanks for the visit.
Another great architectural photo!

Great Photograph.
My sister in-law is moving to England and hoping to visit a number of castles with her two little girls.
Great picture, I love that it's black and white.
Nice black and white. My pups were focused on my hubby eating a steak! -LOL Happy WW.
