The theme for this week's
Photo Hunt is I-spy which was a real head scratcher. After a bit of thought I decided to repost a photo I put up on the Poor Mouth last year. It is a macro shot of part of a WWI group photograph. The photo is of the not-wife's great grandfather's Royal Engineers unitn on the Western Front but. When I saw it my eye was drawn to the banjo player who bore an uncanny resemblance to Josef Stalin
Stalin
I then noticed that the man to the left looked rather like the Blackadder character Captain Darling
As ever perhaps the link to the theme is a bit tenuous but I can say "i-spy" a soviet dictator and a tv sitcom character!

That's a wonderful photograph of your not-wife's Great Grandfather's unit. Too funny what you managed to spy out and I agree with the resemblance. Have a great weekend.

I like your take on the theme... I also like irony, it's like goldy and silvery ;-)
Jams, I think we are all stretching it a bit his week, but you managed to pull it off. The resemblance is amazing. Have a good weekend.
The resemblance is great. The actor definitely looks more "friendly"! :P
Oh, you're right, on both counts!!
Hmmm... I always had a tough time looking at those old photos or movies. I guessed the moustaches might be the main reason that confused me with the look always. Nice post Jams :)
Great take on the theme, Jams - so much to spy ;-)
Happy hunting!
well, this is really interesting. I thought those men so good-looking and lovable, and now I can't! Well, I can't think the banjo player that anymore! She is lucky to have such old photos of her family. A book could be written about those men just from that one photo. My PH: I Spy is here. Thank you.
Haha, what a funny way of spying look alikes! Wonder what the guy would say if he was told he looks like Stalin, Have a nice day ahead!

That picture is older than mine - makes me feel a lot younger. I think I'll run round the block... no, I won't - it's raining. Ah, well.
The great Soviet sitcom, eh ? The character Archie Pelago was case, wasn't he.
Hope your weather is better than ours - have a goo Paddy's Day.

Very cool! We enjoy watching Blackadder here, especially the WWI series. :)
Well that is certainly one way to interpret the theme. Good job.
Thanks to actress Rachel Griffiths, lots of little Brits and Aussie babies are being named Banjo, now. :( There ought to be some sort of naming laws.
Thanks everyone...
Banjo? BANJO? I thought that was a mild expression to describe someone who was a bit of a thicko!
