Iris Dement

Wrote Wasteland of the Free one of the angriest songs I've ever heard. This version is her and piano. It is still a powerful song (btw it was written in 1996, so it is not a protest against Dubya).

On a much lighter note here's another outing for In Spite of Ourselves, a wonderful duet with John Prine

Lighter is not always better.

True. Wasteland of the Free is a powerful song. In spite of ourselves is fun

Dement sounds great with John Prine. After years of smoking (various substances, I'm sure) and drinking, Prine needs a strong female voice to pick him up when he starts to fall. Dement works very nicely. I hope they sing together more.

It would definitely be nice to hear more collaborations between the two.

John Prine never starts to fall. He's a little rougher around the corners since he had throat cancer, but he never starts to fall.
