There appears to have been a significant in the amount of online shopping on Christmas Day this year. Approximately 3.5 million Britons spent some of the day shopping online buying goods worth around £53 million in what was retailers’ busiest Christmas Day ever and a 66% increase in the value of sales the previous year. By comparison around 3.8 million attended Anglican church services.

According to figures from the Internet Media Retail Group, sales by companies that operate online were on course to finish December at £7.4 billion, up 106 per cent on the same month in 2006. Sales through web stores, including high street retailers’ websites, over the past three months are expected to have topped £17.5 billion – a jump of more than 80 per cent from last year.

I wonder whether there is scope to harness the desire to shop for bargains with religious worship. On future Christmas days we will see midnight mass at St Amazonius the patron saint of long tails; Jesus may appear on the road to Ebayus. It would be no difficulty for Marks and Spencer to convert itself into St Michael’s. I’ll stop at this point I need not dwell on American imports such as the Burger King of Kings.... Gah, this is poor stuff even by my own low standards!

About Mark I heard. What about Spencer, the apostle of the Christmas
shopping fever? And look who's talking....

Due to unforseen crap, Christmas almost didn't happen for the Infidel kids this year. And you know what? I wasn't sorry about it either. We kept things very low key and simple and I didn't freak out over baking, cleaning, and shopping at all. The kids got gifts and everyone else in the family agreed to not give the adults gifts and that was that.

The economy here is really sluggish, so when the Wall StreetJournal reported huge sales on Black Friday weekend and Cyber Monday I was a little suspicious. Well, the retail holiday sales figures are in and sure enough things were really slow and retailers had to slash prices big time just to get people into their stores.

I mostly bought practical items like clothes for my girls and new boots for my sons. No Chinese lead toys for us. We're messed up enough. :)

In cae you're wondering, although most shoes here are imported from China, my boys boots were made in Mexico.....just like Papi!

Lord knows, I did all my shopping online this year. It is great for those of us who live far from our families, and can skip all the customs nonsense previous generations had to go through.

Christmas Day turned out to be a pleasant day over at the not-wife's sister's house.. To be honest I did spend more on the not-wife than usual - a pen she had been hankering after. At the end of the day it was an anti climax 0- it always is.

Both of us have gotten into the habit of purchasing most of our presents on-line. It's a lot more convenient, especially since the sort of gits we get each other are often just not available in high street shops.
