The title of this blog comes from a Gaelic expression -"putting on the poor mouth"-which means to exaggerate the direness of one's situation in order to gain time or favour from creditors.

WW - Head
From the British Museum. This week's entry for the Tuesday and Wednesday editions of Wordless Wednesday.
When I was in London 20 years ago I went to the usual Tourist spots. I WISH I had gone to the museum. I would of loved to have seen this sculpture. Amazing!
I think I should know who this is, but I don't think I do... Xerxes maybe? Put me out of my misery, just say "Yes" or "No" on mine bloggie please. I'm not touting, honest, just seen you lots on Daisy the Curly Cat, whom I love! :)
Nice. I'm thinking this is one of the Hittite statues, or perhaps Persian (as Black Cat suggests)? I do remember seeing similar items in the British Museum a while ago. The Metropolitan in New York has a pretty decent collection as well, but nothing seems to be as extensive as the British Museum.

Ahh... yeah. Perfect title! And that's all I'm gonna say about that.

It's donkey's years since I last visited, obviously I need to go again.
Cheers
Thanks everyone.
Maddy, it's a pleasure to spend the odd couple of hours and enjoy a part of the museum.
Thanks for stopping by my site today. Something about this guy seems so regal...in a solid rock sort of way.
:-)
I remember that one from my visit :-)
Great capture! Happy WW.

Nice shot. Wonder who is he?
Looks Asyrian to me... I would to say Xerxes, like Black Cat... but what do I know! :-)

Curious the way the curly beard has ridges as though is knotted or plaited. Very Cool statue. Happy WW
Hmm, some ancient Egyptians had somewhat similar beards, but that face does not look Egyptian. Looks like he's a skinny little bugger, whoever he is!
Nice shot. I have to visit that Museum some day.
Thanks everyone, I think the head is Assyrian rather than Persian. I will have to check
Off with it.
I'm with Mojo! But I do like the curly-cues in the beard.
Happy WW! It is remarkable to see how creative people can create statues such as this one...
I invite your blog readers to see a great photo of A Man and His Dog...
