Alea jacta est

Today I received information on the amount of money I would receive if I left the government department I currently work for. Unlike the lazy pres stories it was not six years' pay (I wish!); it wasn't the three years quoted by other hacks but it was sufficient to make leaving worth considering. There were other considerations but these I will mention next month.

As of 22 October I will no longer be a civil servant.

That said I will need to find some sort of work next year.

I'm sorry to hear that. My husband was made redundant a few years ago and received a paltry pay out. Good luck with your future plans.

But are you going to be an uncivil servant?

Thanls Ellee. Luckily my settlement will be fairly good but I can't live on it sadly.. well not for long!

Very, Calum!

And then?

I guess, if it's retirement, you will keep some benefits? In Canada, those are the only decent things about Civil Service work. Meanwhile, get a good rest, before looking for better work. Wishing you the very best, Jams.

We shall see James

Sadly not retirement Claude, If I had been over 50 I could have retired early, taking a moderate pension from the get go! I will have to find some work next year sadly

Thnls Stan... now that is a something I must do and fast

Good luck with that. I often wish I had done that when I had the opportunity a couple of years ago.

Jams

At least they made an offer. In the states the highest paid are given demeaning work hoping some will retire or quit. They are now paying the most experienced five times as much to sit at a service window for three months. One could pay a person 30k, but the dimwits brought the people earning 100k
to do this work.

I wonder if I am doing the right thing Cherie, but I am not sure I have a choice. Things are going to get pretty bad over the next few years in the public sector and people will be thrown out of far worse terms

That is a shitty way to deal with people Beak

So this is the crossroads you have mentioned? Good for you to have decided this, congrats and hope you will find something non-governmental soon.

Ah, Jams, without taking the outcome lightly: When reading Crossroads I worried as I thought it might be something worse. Now I am glad it was not.

Soon you will see that your decision was one for the better.

Just think of Hesse's Steps:

[...] The heart must be, at each new call for leaving, / prepared to part and start without the tragic, / without the grief - with courage to endeavour / a novel bond, a disparate connection: / for each beginning bears a special magic / that nurtures living and bestows protection. [...]

Here's hoping mon ami. The pay out won't last forever!

It could e a lot more serious Sean. Still it's a huge leap fopr me. I've been with the Home Office for almost 25 years. Things like CVs etc are now a distant memory!
